Meet David Patch: Branding and Logistics
What's your story?
Grew up in North Carolina and moved to Pennsylvania in 1998. Lived there until moving to Arizona in 2013. Since moving here I have loved it and the 99.9% of sunshine we get per year.
How about family? Kids?
Married to my best friend and love of my life - Rosario. We have 3 kids - Manuel - 15, Rosario (Little R) - 12 and Sydney - 2.
What started you in triathlons?
I started running while living in Pennsylvania and was doing Half Marathons and Marathons. After we moved to Arizona my wife started training for her first triathlon. After seeing her do her first event I was like I got to do this too. So I did my first Olympic Triathlon in May 2014 (Tempe International) and have been hooked ever since.
What is your favorite event? why?
I would have to say the Ironman 70.3 in Monterrey Mexico and I feel the reason for this is it was my first 70.3. The course is very nice and now that I have done other events I have to say it is very fast. Look forward to doing it again in a few years to crush my PR.
What is 1 thing people may not know about you?
Tough question....That as a kid I had really bad allergies. Luckily I have outgrown them.
What excites you about the AZ TRI Club?
The thing I love about AZTriClub is the people. Every event we have it seems like I never want to leave. I have a great time talking to everyone. Also, love training with all the other members.
Best racing experience?
Have to say the 2016 Tempe International - Besides swimming in fresh water in Tempe Town Lake, it was so great seeing all the AZ Tri members at the water station and at the end of the race. It was also great that we took 3rd in the Small/Medium Tri Club teams.
Worst racing experience?
Would be my first Olympic Tri at the 2014 Tempe International. Had a hard time with my first open water swim, then when I started on my bike I had a flat on my front tire. So even though I loved it after the race, I was very upset during the race. Luckily the run was perfect.
What’s next for you?
I have the following races and events coming up:
- August 14 - Mountain Man 70.3
- August 27 - Embrace the Heat Ride to Payson
- October 1 - Las Vegas 70.3 Triathlon
- December 4 - Hits Palm Springs 140.6
